When life gives you Tangerine 🍊: Make sure you make it your own tree 🌳

Perfect SoulMate Gwan-sik and Ae-soon🤞

Hello everyone! Welcome back to Yetunde’s view. Parksoo 👏. It’s been a while, but for a good reason tbh. I haven’t really connected with a lot of k-drama’s that have been airing well except STUDY GROUP 🥷🤺🕴which I totally recommend, go watch it, guys. It is a 💯

This pov is not about that, tho🙂‍↔️. It is about a slice of life drama, i believe, which is in every sense a realistic one as it portrays the various steps or situations one encounters in this journey called life. It airs every Friday on Netflix, 4 episodes each. So definitely go and check it out now.

After watching the first 4 eps, I can say I witnessed phases such as:  the childish phase, the phase of motherly love, the life threatening family members phase, the tantrum phase, the sad phase, the happy phase, the embarrassing phase, the emotional phase, the WTF! Phase, the “I can not describe what is happening at all, but let’s go with it” phase. Above all, it was the young love that blossomed from the roots till it became a full-blown tangerine tree. I guess true love still very much exists.

Q: What do you want to become? Ae-soon: I want to be president  Gwan-sik: Then I want to be First Lady

Let’s get into it, shall we 🫡

When Life Gives You Tangerine starring Singer-Actress IU and Park Bo Gum as the main lead, tells the story of lovebirds living on an island that everyone seems to know everyone and any little out of place situation becomes an over exaggerated scandal.

The drama follows the marriage and story of Ae-soon and Gwan-sik. A love story that started at the age of 10 spanning over decades till adulthood. One can refer to the love they shared as undaunting, resilient, chaotic(Ae-soon), unchanging(Gwan-sik), and sincere. The unconditional love they share is cascaded all through the first 4 episodes released on Friday, 7th March,2025.

One key part that stands out to me aside from the unwavering love is the societal or cultural norms that seem to be the standard in 1960, korea challenged by the main leads. We witness how Ae-soon is being disuaded severally by people to forget her dream of being a poet because, as a woman she has other things to focus on, while her mother tries to remove her from that norm of being an housekeeper or her ending up as a Haenyeo( a female water diver) as she wants her daughter to live a better life than hers.

Ae-soon and her Mother

Also, the issue of when a male and female engage in any act socially not accepted, the female is the one that carries the shame and is being chastised. Another noticeable norm was the fact that women were expected to work and support the family, simultaneously  taking care of the children. It felt like it was very compulsory, and even pregnancy can not remove them from that duty

I concluded that Gwansik is a representation of throwing all those norms into the ocean. The best scene for me was when he stood up to his family and took his wife and daughter away from home after he found out that they kept making his wife uncomfortable and hurting her. Every time he got hurt from his job, whereby he had to sacrifice his body and health, he did not complain or groan about it but continually strived to make sure his wife and daughter lived okay without any stress

Gwansik: Enough is enough!
Family that decided to take over their own life

Tbh! I can talk and talk and talk, and I will still have a lot to say from the first 4 episodes, but then I would be giving too much spoilers and i don’t want to do that. So, fellow k-drama watchers, it is time to go and witness  the story yourself.

All I can say is that Ae-soon and Gwansik created their own path. In a world where they did not get the chance to plant their own tangerine tree, they made sure to treat the tree and it fruits the way they wanted, not what might have been expected of them.

They created their own peace, not held down by any boundaries. They both really went through a lot, and  it was beautiful to watch their love blossom 🌸 throughout the many springs over the decades.

And it is a wrap, guys. Don’t forget to share, like, comment, and most importantly, watch the drama.

Bye, guys🫂.

Behind Yeon Si-Eun is Ahn Su-Ho and Vice-Versa.🧑‍🤝‍🧑

Ahn Su-Ho and Yeon Si-Eun

Hello fellow k-drama watchers🫂. Welcome back to Yetunde’s view on k-drama🫡.  Today, i will be giving my view on the  8 episode korean drama that aired in 2022 titled Weak Hero Class 1.

You are probably wondering, why a 2022 drama🤔?

Well, there has been an update! Shooting of the second season of Weak Hero Class had wrapped up, and it is set to air in January 2025. Considering it was quite a popular and well received drama, i believe we are all excited about the news.

Now, let me juggle your memory and prepare you for SEASON 2.

Weak Hero Class 1, stars actor Park Jihon, acting as Yeon Si-Eun, who is introduced at the beginning of the drama as among the top 1% students in his class and is not interested in anything except studying. He is portrayed to be physically weak, but he doesn’t back down when attacked and always has the last say.  His encounter with the class bullies leads him to create a friendship bond with Choi Hyun-wook, who in this drama goes by Ahn Su-Ho and is the strongest fighter in their class.

Although, they form freindship with the tormented son of an assemblyman, Hong Kyun, who acts as Oh Beom-suk, it did not last as he lets his “delusion” take over his thoughts and betray the group.

Basically, the drama is all about surving a high school life that is full of violence.

“Sometimes, i don’t regret being alone. It’s peaceful living in your own world.”

Let’s get into it🤜🤛. I just want to say that there is definitely something wrong with the school system in South Korea. The amount of violence that happened in the drama is crazy. Also, the fact that the incident of a student drugging another student in the school premises is covered up by the school was a very jaw-dropping, speechless moment for me.

The bullying in the drama was never-ending. Every corner you pass, there is a bully waiting to just beat the crap-out of you for no valid reason.

I loved the Friendship betwen Ahn Su-ho and Yeon Si-eun. Their meeting was not the regular getting to know each other friendhsip troupe. They enocuntered one another once in a fight in thier class room, and it was like fate decided to tie them both with a red ribbon🎗.

Su-ho said in one of their encounter, and i quote, Maybe we were a married couple in our past live.” Thus began a friendship between a student that does nothing but study and another that has no plan to go to college.

One thing i enjoyed about their friendship was their eagerness to protect one another, their little banter when they converse, and the subtle bromance they had going on. It was cute to see.

Now, moment of truth…

Si-eun protrayal of shock, mixed with concern and helplessness. The surge of panic and worry, grappling with guilt for not being able to protect Su-ho. A scene that showed how deep his emotional connection to Su-ho was and the harsh reality of his environment.

The last 2 episode’s was gut-wretching to see. Su-ho is in a coma, Si-eun is transferred to another school, Beom- suk Father, then shamelessly covers up the incident leading to these events.

No spoiler🙃, especially for the readers that are going to watch the drama for the first time.

So, dear readers, it is time to go and watch Weak Hero Class 1, an 8 episode drama, which you can find on HiTv, LokLok, Dramacool, Nkiri. The second season will be aired on Netflix.

Till we meet again🫂

Bye👋

What do you know about Dear Hyeri?

Welcome back to my view on k-drama’s🫂. It has been a very long while😔 and i sincerely apologise, but we are back and on full grind.

I had a moment of reflection, i thought about which drama i should give my opinion on to reintroduce you guys back to this blog.

Let me just tell you, 🤣 it was less than 5-min thinking because the 12 episodes ongoing DEAR HYERI drama appeared in my mind so fast.

This drama has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me. I have had moments when i just screamed😱,smiled😄, sighed🫠, and i have also been trying to know how to reach the writer and director and say my mind because what exactly are they trying to do😵‍💫.

Anyways, let’s get into the drama…..

Eun Ho and Hyeri

Dear Hyeri, led by Shin Hye Sun, is about a woman who is living a double life as a parking attendant and a Tv Announcer, after her sister’s disappearance and breakup with star announcer Lee Jin wook. Things get complicated further when newbie announcer Kang Hoon falls for her alter ego.

First, i believe this is a drama that speaks on mental health, as the female lead is diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder(DID). So, if we view this drama from this perspective, it is not really easy to understand the premise of the drama, but this blog is about my opinion😌, so i am just going to focus on the parts that infuriates me.

Let me officially begin with “WTF!” 😅, and why is the drama named Dear Hyeri.

Here i am,  starting a drama because the female lead is one of my favorite actresses. What i did not expect was coming across a very  appalling love story.

My dear, can you stand up, pick up your life, and move on please!. I just don’t understand why she is still in love with someone that is selfishly doing things that will appease him alone. His actions or let me say “his so called help” did nothing more than ruin her the more.

P.S, I am Jung Hyun-oh hater👿, and a Kang Joo yeon supporter🤭

I have had a few back and forth arguements with other viewers, and i just want to say, from what i have watched, Eun ho and Hyeri are literally the same person. I view hyeri as the happy version of present life Eun ho. If you listen to her conversations and then the flashback of her ex-relationship, one can infer that Hyeri is just the lover girl Eun ho wanted to be.

Yes, she has DID, but in my opinion, the only part of her that i believe is her sister, is her name and her job as a parking assistant. Every other thing is just Eun ho living the life she couldn’t get as her real self. That is just what i think.

The 8 episodes out of 12, has giving enough points for me to be all for Eun ho, ending up with the man her alter ego is in love with. He is the perfect person for her, considering her experience in the last relationship and how the last 4-5 yrs after her breakup has been.

I did see some people’s view that they would prefer Eun ho to rather end up alone. On a regular day, i would have agreed, but not for this drama. I want her to experience the acceptance, acknowledgments, and growing together phase that comes with being in a relationship. She did not experience that with her ex, and she seems to blame herself for a lot of things. So, while she picks up herself and finally finds healing, i want her to heal in love to.

I don’t want to spill more info, as i believe this is a drama one needs to experience themself, without anyone giving you too much inside information.

SO, dear readers, take time out of your busy schedules and check out the drama Dear Hyeri, which is a 12 ep drama, with 8 episode currently out and it is aired on Monday and Tuesday.

My Ultimate Couple🫂🤭

I just want to end this write-up with an appreciation to the writer, i know i have a lot of things to say to her(💣💬), i just have to acknowledge that this is a drama that keeps one interested and wanting to know what the next episode is going to bring.  The drama has kept me on my toes, and i anticipate the days of release every week.

This is not goodbye guys, this is a i will see you later🫡

kindly comment your view, repost, and drop a like.

MY NAME : Yoon Ji-Woo and Choi Mu-jin🤝

Hii guys, I am back again with another korean drama that is on Netflix and doing quite well actually. You really should go check it out if you have not 👉.

MY NAME is a drama of the noir genre about seventeen year old Ji-woo who wants to find and kill the person that murdered her father. The police closed the case and she is left with no choice but to find the killer herself and in the process runs into trouble and is saved by Choi Mu-jin the leader of the organisation known as Dongcheon. Apparently Ji-Woo’s father worked there and his friends with Mu-Jin.

Choi Mu-jin is introduced as a gang leader and a Friend of Ji-woo’s father. He takes her in although with a plan of his own and his trust in her desperation, trains her as a member of the organisation.

With her strong will and desperation, we see her transition from the seventeen year old girl with no help and witness to apprehend her fathers killer, to a well trained strong woman now named OH Hyejin. She takes the identity of a police officer and infiltrates the Narcotics deparment by working undercover to get information for the organisation.

We are given a mentor mentee relationship between Choi Mu-jin and Yoon Ji-Woo now OH Hyejin. The chemistry and energy they had is quite immaculate. OH Hyejin who is ready to risk her cover to save Choi Mu-jin and him trusting and having faith in her regardless of the side comment given by his loyal sidekick Taeji.

Their flow and energy could also be seen in their character and how far they will go in getting what they want. Their similarity was glaring, they had a strong bond that broke the moment the truth came out. She finds out her Father was actually a police on an undercover mission in the organisation and was killed after he got exposed. I guess this was why Mu-jin trained her and also sent her as an undercover. History just repeating itself, father and daughter were both used as pawn.

The killer she has been looking for all along is the person she trusted with her whole life. We see the poetic way she expressed the betrayal and it even got better with the introduction of the theme song. Anytime It comes on, the intro sound and “yeah yeah yeah” portrays the emotion the character is showing us In a much deeper form. We see the actress go through an emotional breakdown for a moment and after she recovered we could see something different, apart from her desperation and drive. We could finally see the “Conviction” Choi Mu-jin talked about. And it made me realise that there as only been one predator in the drama and that is Ji-woo.

Choi Mu-jin said and I quote,

There are many kind of people in this world and every one think they are special but if you take a closer look, there are only two categories. The Predator and Prey”.

This line made me realise that although Mu-jin saw himself as the predator and others as the prey, he was lying to him self. He is a prey also, a prey that became a predator so as not to get eaten.

Now Ji-woo is a predator that was all about getting her prey. Choi Mu-jin is trying to protect his seat as a leader so he had to maintain a predator poise while Ji-woo is going after her prey regardless of any setback or whoever that comes after her. She did not care if you saw her as weak, if you are in her way she will remove you. From the first day she took on the stance that she would kill the person that killed her father, we could see the dark aura around her and it never left even in her moment of hesitation.

In that moment of hesitation whereby we see a cliche sex scene😂. That scene always finds its way to revenge plots especially when we have two opposite genders together and I guess the adrenaline and the pain and scars gave a kind of push. We see Pil do telling her that the law is the best way to catch the killer. A similar scene in Vincenzo whereby Cha young talks Vincenzo into using the law to get the Babel guys. Yea 😬, we all know how that turned out, Vincenzo lost his mother and in this drama, Ji-woo lose Pildo .

We witness the rage and like always I appreciate how the writer did not divert from the plot although we got a little glitch on the way but the game left pause and came back in full action. All the pent up anger and emotions is released and we see Ji-woo fighting her way through the corridor of men to get to her main target.

The confrontation was quite beautiful to watch . With the iconic line of “it will not end until one of us die” , we witness a fight to death of similar technique and power. It was like they were a mirror of one another. The training scene they started with is what they ended with. They both hit each others strategic point, although it felt Mu-jin had the upper hand and Ji-woo strokes were quite sloppy but like Do Gang Jae said Choi Mu-jin loses his guard, most probably because he knew he taught her all her moves and would be able to predict each outcome. I guess he forgot what he told her , which is

To take revenge is to be a monster”

And a monster she became, the final move was so unexpected but delivered smoothly it was the final blow that ended the long awaited revenge.

The plot, execution and cast were all beautifully planned out. The characters were portrayed well without leaving any crumbs. The journey through the eight episodes explored all corners in which we got a beautiful Masterpiece. It is a very interesting drama to watch and I highly recommend.

As always guys, don’t forget to like, comment and share.

Bye for now.

Vincenzo : The two main Villain( Han-seok Jang and Choi Myung Hee🥶)

Hi guys, have you seen Vincenzo, if not why?

Vincenzo is one of the most popular drama that came out this year on Netflix from the Korean industry and let me tell you, its 20 eps is worth every minute of your time.

What is there not to like, is it the fantastic cast; Geumga plaza guys played their characters so well and they added not only comedy but spice to the drama.

what about the action scenes; Vincenzo was just the perfect male lead with the complex story itself and then the delivery blew me away.

A sprinkle of love interest; Vincenzo and Inzaghi for me guys 😌 .

And the man himself VINCENZO CASANO, the mafia Lawyer and consigliere( advisor and dispute reconciliation expert). His whole presence was just everything, like the drama cenimatography is topnotch and the infusion of the Italian language used by Vincenzo every now and then was a big plus but guys the CONSIGLIERE himself. Don’t play with him.

He is great but did you guys see our two main villains, Han seok Jang And Choi Myung Hee.

One thing for sure, I was not expecting Jang Jun Woo who was so awkward, naive but cute and then him speaking English once in while to be Han seok . Like nothing gave it away. I actually wasn’t feeling his character at first, like it is Taecyeon what is this role. I just concluded he was going to be the series comic relief but What!!. It felt like we got the plot twist so early.

He stepped out of the car in his clean suit and his facial expression was to die for like Literally guys “die for”. How can such a sweet character be a psychopath. And then things were not even calm yet, we were introduced to the Zumba dancing Choi Myung hee, “she crazy, run” .

Her character was not the usual villain that usually grace our screen, she gave this unique vibe and her Gyeongsang dialect made every word give a certain effect especially when she curses or realise Vincenzo got her but then she always had a good comeback . Anytime you see her dancing just know she created havoc with a smile and calm face.

They were both the greater evil. Their collaboration and connection was so strong, their thoughts aligned, they were merciless. What they wanted they got regardless of who or what was there or owned it. They crushed anyone in their way and razed them to the ground, no crumbs left.

It was deadly but beautiful to watch. They were the unstoppable duo, practically nobody could put a stop to their actions because Han seok had the money, Myung hee had the law; a great combo guys.

But then they had one problem Vincenzo, they knew he was more intelligent both in strategy and action, so all their focus was on how to bring him down.

Their downfall began the very moment they took on Vincenzo. They lost their touch, no well planned operation, it was just half baked plan no time to think things through although it delivered result,

May Vincenzo mother rest in peace”.

This idea worsened their situation and we saw Vincenzo playing out what his character was actually built for. They could not beat him because Vincenzo saw himself as a villain too and as villains themselves that have been attacking people not up to their par, they were confused on what strategy to use in defeating him because nothing was working.

To be honest, Vicenzo had the upper hand because they were bad people and he was always after bad people. Like he said and I quote,

I am still a villain and couldn’t care less about Justice. Justice is weak and empty. One cannot win against any villains with Justice alone. If merciless Justice exists, I am willing to yield to it. Even villains long to live in a peaceful world however, since that is impossible I have taken up a new hobby. That is Getting rid of garbage because If I don’t do that , people will die buried underneath the garbage ”

and to end that beautiful statement he said,”Evil Is Prevalent and Vehement “.

Lets not forget the Italian proverb,

Un diabolo scaccia l’altro”.

Which means it takes a devil to drive out another devil.

And that was what happened, a befitting end to both villains. I might have hated both characters but I am not going to lie, they put on one hell of a show and resistance. Their character was presented quite beautifully and gracefully although went out with a bang 😂

Choi Myung hee danced away to her death in a beautiful rhythm and steps as the fire took the position of the DJ playing a Zumba lyric and Han seok Jang just got what he gave to others, a slow death that touched every part of his soul. I believe that was one dreadful way to exit; like he had to die on Vincenzo terms not on his own will, Splendid.

I am not going to lie, Han seok character intrigued me a lot, I really want a back story on how he grew up and turned out that way because he was brutal with a smile on his handsome face.

I hope you guys enjoy my piece, it felt like poetry to me and I loved every moment I spent writing this out

Bye for now

Squid Game: why do people believe Gi hun should have not won.

Hiii guys, I am sure we have all seen the Squid game and if you have not kindly grace yourself with that masterpiece.

How do I see Squid Game?

Well apart from the fact that it is a great series with a good presentation and the way the production team put soo much effort in making it interesting and let’s not forget about the trailer which was a big attraction, it is a series that plays with the human mind. It dwells on humanity ,people’s greed and how far they will go to save themselves.

Squid Game was not only fun but had quite alot of lessons placed within it. So when I hear some people call it mid, I don’t quite understand but then everyone view things differently.

Now to our main lead Seong Gi-hun, let’s be honest he wasn’t the strongest or the smartest and yes he was lucky but that is the whole point of a survival game. Being smart or strong is definitely a plus but it doesn’t guarantee anything especially when it comes to survival you just need to survive regardless of who you are , what you stand for and what you have. That is what Gi-hun did although he got help from the old man.

I keep seeing comments about the main lead not being an interesting character to have won but I think the meaning behind his characterization went over our head. Seong Gi-hun represents sanity, he represents humanity. He was one character that was not taken over by greed or drawn to the traps led down for them in the games. Yes he is in debt and played the game but from the first game at the train station, we see that he even forgot why he was playing the game. He just kept trying so he can win and that was it. Even during each game he was advocating for the survival of all not just himself and I know we are all going to point out the game with the old man whereby he tricked him but let’s be honest we are all going to do that. I guess he thought “ooh! the old man lost his memory and he said he is going to die soon, I might as well survive”. Although he did what he had to do to survive, we could see his facial expression and how sad he was and when he found out the old man was pretending he was still remorseful.

His character is the bridge between one’s true desire and Greed. Most of them complained and wanted to leave after the first game but when money was introduced, and they realised as long as other people died they will get more money for themselves they decided to play.

To me Seong Gi-hun character was a necessary plus and a deserving main lead, in a desperate world of greed and survival we need a clear head. We see the last scene whereby he did not get on the plane and he is going back to the game, exactly! It is so Seong Gi-hun, he is all for justice and still believes in humanity.

What a good film, although there were quite some loopholes, it was an incredible watch regardless.

Bye for now.
